Volunteers at Karin Dom

Karin Dom receives help from Bulgarian and foreign volunteers. The volunteers participate in the daily program of the Centre and in the following activities:
• group and individual sessions  with children;
• assistance in children education and therapy;
• developing children life skills and social skills;
• trips, walks and celebrations;
• activities in Karin Dom Park and in the sensory garden;
• preparing postcards, souvenirs, kraft work together with the children for the annual charity bazaars;
• support in the organization of fundraising events;
• help with implementation of Karin Dom’s projects.
Volunteers gain knowledge and skills for working with children with special needs, make social and professional contacts, form new friendships.

Up to now 245 volunteers from Bulgaria, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, the USA, Canada have helped at Karin Dom on a short-term basis. Two of them worked on a long-term basis: young volunteer from thew American Peace Corp, and a psychologist from Japan who volunteered for two years under the program of the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

A qualification in the field of education, social studies or special needs, as well as previous experience would be helpful for volunteering at Karin Dom, but it is not a must. What is important is the positive attitude and the genuine interest in children with special needs. People who apply for volunteers are asked to submit a CV and a short  letter of motivation.

If you want to apply for a volunteer at Karin Dom, please write to trainingcentre@karindom.org or call us to +359 52 302 517.

Testimonials

"We must radically change our thinking and the way of interacting with children with SEN if we really want results. From now on I will perceive them as all the other children, not as different and will apply my new knowledge to work with them. The training was interesting, served in an accessible manner, with extreme caution and patience to us by our colleagues from Karin Dom.  Simply said - thank you! I will feel more secure and confident in my future work."
Galina Raykova
Preschool teacher, Varna

"My participation in the project turned my attention to the fact that until recently children with SEN did not receive the necessary care and access to education - and it is their right as it is for all the other children. The lecturers were good communicators and professionals with an individual approach and tact to the needs of each child."
Mariana Nikolova
Preschool teacher, Varna

"Do not be afraid to make a big step. You can not skip the gap with two small jumps "
David Loyd George

"I feel satisfied. Extremely useful, practically oriented training. If the improvements that we propose are adopted in kindergarten, the gap will be bridged slowly but without falling into it."
