Training and Resources Center
In 2001 Karin Dom was invited by the European Commission to a Conference in Brussels, to make a presentation as one of the six European best practices and was encouraged to develop as a Training and Resource Centre.
To disseminate good practice, we run a training programme, tailored to the needs of the trainees: professionals, working at daycare centres and residential institutions for children with disabilities from all over the country; parents; volunteers; university students; social assistants.
The training modules are held by both Karin Dom team and foreign specialists and include:
1) on-site assessment of the needs of the trainees;
2) sharing the goals of the training and the expectations of the trainees;
3) developing training programs tailored to the trainees’ specific needs;
4) on-site seminars – lectures and demonstrations;
5) seminars at Karin Dom – lectures, case studies, discussions, work;in small groups, demonstrations of practical sessions with children;
6) preparation and presentation of training materials;
7) distribution of informational leaflets for parents;
8) practical training and consultations to students, volunteers, parents;
9) work meetings, conferences.
Below are some training modules, held on specific topics by the team of Karin Dom: Stimulation of Development, Alternative Methods of Communication, Developing Self-Care Skills, Characteristics of ADHD, Characteristics of Autism and Autistic Behaviour, Sensory Integration, Multisensory Environments, Aspects of Pedagogical Interaction with Children with Special Needs, Management of Challenging Behavior, Working with Children with Multiple Disabilities, Montessori Pedagogy and its use with Children with Special Needs, Basic Principles for Working with Children, Needs and Rights of Children, Inclusive Education, Team Work, Motivation of Staff, Partnership with Parents.
